In a remarkable two-week period, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers from Houston and Waco successfully apprehended five unlawfully present noncitizens wanted for murder or homicide in the United States or abroad.

The operation, spanning from late May to early June 2024, resulted in the arrests of individuals from Honduras and Mexico with outstanding warrants for violent crimes.

This collaborative effort between ERO Houston and ERO Waco demonstrates the commitment of immigration enforcement agencies to apprehend dangerous fugitives and uphold public safety.

Following the string of arrests, ERO Houston Field Office Director Bret A. Bradford explained why his fugitive operations officers are so successful and commended them for all that they do to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and enhance public safety.

“The ability of ERO Houston and ERO Waco fugitive operations officers to quickly translate intelligence into actionable leads that result in the arrest and removal of dangerous foreign fugitives and other criminal noncitizens from the community is unparalleled across the country,” said Bradford. “In one case, they were able to successfully locate and arrest an unlawfully present murder fugitive in just seven hours, which is almost unheard of given all of the logistical hurdles and surveillance needed to safely take a dangerous fugitive like that into custody. The work that they do day in and day out to uphold the integrity of our nation’s immigration laws and to bolster public safety in the community is truly inspiring and a testament to their unyielding commitment and dedication to their craft.”

Among those arrested were a 38-year-old Honduran national wanted in Mexico for multiple murders, apprehended in Galveston, and a 42-year-old Honduran national wanted in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, for homicide, captured in southwest Houston. Additionally, three Mexican nationals wanted for homicides in Mexico were apprehended in Waco and other locations.

These arrests highlight the importance of collaboration between different law enforcement agencies and the effectiveness of targeted fugitive operations. By working together, ERO Houston and ERO Waco were able to swiftly apprehend individuals who pose a significant threat to communities both in the United States and abroad.

The operation also underscores the challenges faced by immigration enforcement agencies in dealing with unlawfully present individuals who have committed violent crimes. By removing these dangerous fugitives from the streets, ERO is contributing to the safety and security of communities across the country.

The arrested individuals will face legal proceedings in accordance with U.S. immigration laws and may be subject to removal from the country. The success of this operation sends a strong message to those who attempt to evade justice by fleeing to the United States.
