ICE Chicago Deports Guatemalan Fugitive Wanted For Rape After Illegal Re-entry

CHICAGO, Ill. – A 40-year-old Guatemalan man, Cecilio Lopez Vasquez, wanted for rape in his home country, has been deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Lopez was removed to Guatemala on March 17th.

According to ICE, Lopez had illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and location. ICE initially arrested him on September 14, 2006, and subsequently deported to Guatemala on November 30, 2006, as ordered by an immigration judge.

However, Lopez illegally re-entered the United States at an unknown time and location. He was arrested again on December 13, 2024, by the Missouri Highway Patrol for driving under the influence (DUI).

ICE Chicago apprehended Lopez on February 13th outside the St. Clair County Courthouse in Osceola, Missouri. While in ICE custody, authorities discovered an active warrant for his arrest in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, for rape.

Lopez was turned over to Guatemalan authorities on March 17th in close coordination with the Security Alliance for Fugitive Enforcement taskforce located in Guatemala.

“This removal shows that our officers are critical in providing justice for victims on an international scale,” said Sam Olson, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago Field Office Director. “Criminal aliens will not be allowed to use our nation as a means to evade the law in their home country.”
