U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a citizen of Eritrea on February 7th in Texas. Uqbasilassie Kiflemariam, 40, is a convicted sex offender with a history of non-compliance with registration requirements.
Kiflemariam was convicted in Oklahoma in 2014 on three counts of first-degree rape and sentenced to 10 years of confinement with sex offender registration requirements. An immigration judge ordered his removal from the United States in 2022.

In 2024, Kiflemariam was arrested by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.
“The importance surrounding the arrest and pending removal of this individual highlights our commitment to enforcing the immigration laws of our nation,” said ICE Dallas Enforcement and Removal Operations Dallas Field Office acting Director Joshua Johnson. “Individuals such as Uqbasilassie Kiflemariam represent a significant threat to public safety in our communities. We will not relent in our efforts to expedite his removal.”

Kiflemariam remains in ICE custody pending his removal to Eritrea.
