ICE Apprehends Illegal Alien Charged With Rape In Massachusetts

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has apprehended Jose Garcia-Salmeron, 34, an illegally present Salvadoran national charged with raping a Massachusetts resident. The arrest took place in Boston on January 22nd.

“Jose Garcia-Salmeron is charged with victimizing one of our Massachusetts residents and represents a significant threat to the safety of Massachusetts neighborhoods,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “We will not tolerate such threats to our neighbors. ERO Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by targeting, arresting, and removing any illegally present individuals who present such a threat to our New England communities.”

Garcia-Salmeron’s history with U.S. immigration authorities dates back to 2007. He was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents on July 16, 2007, after illegally entering the United States.

He was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge and transferred to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which released him from custody on August 31, 2007. An immigration judge ordered Garcia-Salmeron removed to El Salvador on November 11, 2007.

In July 2024, ERO Boston encountered Garcia-Salmeron following his arrest by the Revere Police Department in Massachusetts on a rape charge. ERO Boston issued an immigration detainer, but the Chelsea District Court ignored the detainer and released Garcia-Salmeron from custody.

Following his January 22nd arrest, Garcia-Salmeron remains in ERO custody.
