Florida’s relentless hurricane season continues to wreak havoc on the state’s insurance industry, with estimated insured losses from three major storms now approaching a staggering $4 billion.
As of Friday, Hurricane Milton, which struck Sarasota County on October 9th, has generated over 204,000 claims, totaling an estimated $2.48 billion in losses. The majority of these claims involve damage to residential properties.

This follows Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Taylor County on September 26th and caused an estimated $1.3 billion in insured losses from over 121,000 claims.
Hurricane Debby also left its mark earlier in the season, generating over 21,000 claims and an estimated $131 million in losses.
These figures highlight the devastating impact of this year’s hurricane season on Florida’s insurance industry. With tens of thousands of claims still unresolved, the final cost of these storms is expected to climb even higher in the coming weeks and months.
