As North Florida marks the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Idalia’s devastating impact, the federal government announced on Wednesday that the National Flood Insurance Program has paid out a staggering $372 million in claims related to the storm.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported that the flood insurance program processed a total of 5,200 claims stemming from Idalia’s wrath.

The powerful Category 3 hurricane made landfall in Taylor County’s Keaton Beach on August 30, 2023, before tearing through other rural areas of North Florida, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Emergency services responded to numerous calls for rescue and assistance, and residents were urged to evacuate in vulnerable areas.
Idalia quickly weakened as it moved inland, but not before leaving a path of destruction, prompting a large-scale recovery and cleanup effort.
