Hurricane Idalia Losses Near $245 Million In Florida

Estimated insured losses from Hurricane Idalia neared $245 million Thursday, as the total continues to gradually increase.

Estimated insured losses from Hurricane Idalia neared $245 million Thursday, as the total continues to gradually increase.

Data posted on the state Office of Insurance Regulation website showed estimated insured losses of $244.6 million, based on 22,763 claims.

That was up from $230 million in estimated losses, based on 22,087 claims, a week earlier.

The Category 3 Idalia made landfall Aug. 30 in the Keaton Beach area of Taylor County before crossing parts of rural North Florida.

Of the total claims Thursday, 15,605 involved residential property, with others involving such things as auto damage.

The data showed that 8,366 claims had been closed with payments, while 5,487 had been closed without payments.
