The Lea County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a disturbing discovery of human remains in Jal, New Mexico.
The investigation began on November 5th when a local resident reported a strange encounter with Cecil Villanueva, who was carrying two bags and made alarming statements about discarding human remains. Subsequent searches near a convenience store and Villanueva’s residence led to the discovery of bone fragments.

Forensic analysis confirmed that the fragments were indeed human remains. Further investigation at the property on South 4th Street uncovered additional skeletal remains, including portions of 10 to 20 human skulls.
The case is now linked to the 2019 disappearance of Angela McManes, whose last known address was near the property under investigation. Authorities are working diligently to identify the remains and determine their connection to McManes and any other potential victims.
The Lea County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to contact them at 575-396-3611 or Lea County Crimestoppers at 575-393-8005.
