HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Affordable Housing Services, Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative, and Housing First Steps Forward on Tuesday will celebrate the opening of an apartment complex specifically meant to help formerly homeless veterans.
All 36 units at Youngstown Apartments, 1115 E. 127th Ave., Tampa, FL 33612, will be leased at below-market rates to previously homeless veterans. Many have a disability and are older than 65, and the complex is almost completely leased.
With funding provided by Hillsborough County Affordable Housing Services and Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative, Housing First Steps purchased and completed a major renovation of Youngstown Apartments, which consists of six buildings with six units each; all have one bedroom and one bath. Residents will receive appropriate services, including assistance in obtaining medical treatment, mental health treatment, counseling, and other essential services for achieving independent living.

Hillsborough County contributed about $4.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act – Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery funding to the project.
Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative collaborates with other agencies to develop and provide innovative solutions to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring in Hillsborough County.
The programs and services funded by Hillsborough County focus on creating new affordable housing opportunities, training for residents to further their careers and afford home ownership, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the communities around them.
