Earlier this year, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi labeled her Republican counterparts “the enemy within.” Subsequently, the Democrats’ new parlor game is tossing Republicans off of House committees.
It happened first to Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and more recently to Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona.
But like Santa Claus, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has a list and he’s checking it twice, just in case the GOP reclaims the House next year.
According to The Hill, the California Republican has so far identified four Democrats he would boot from committee assignments, should he become speaker in 2023.
McCarthy’s list includes left-wing Reps. Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, all of California, as well as Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
McCarthy, according to The Hill, said a majority vote would be required to for them to retain their committee seats, if he becomes speaker.
“None of the Democrats singled out by McCarthy as examples of who could be removed from House committees have embraced conspiracy theories or promoted violence against their political opponents the way Greene and Gosar have,” The Hill reported, spreading obvious falsehood and misinformation.
For one thing, Schiff and Swalwell spread the malicious lie that Trump was in cahoots with Kremlin operatives to steal the 2016 election. For his part, Schiff spent months claiming he had “secret” evidence that would prove Trump’s guilt. We’re awaiting said evidence, even as special prosecutor John Durham now brings indictments against those who helped concoct the story for Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
Maybe The Hill means the Democrats didn’t fuel this conspiracy theory because they knew it was a lie.
Waters has openly encouraged violence against conservatives.
When Trump was in the White House, she encouraged her followers to “get out and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome. She also mentioned to another gathering to “go and take out Trump tonight.” And just this year, as Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was on trial for the death of George Floyd, Waters told the crowd “get more confrontational” if the jury did not find Chauvin guilty.
Omar, meanwhile, excused the rioters and looters who burned Minneapolis last year after Floyd’s demise. “When we see unrest take place, it is often the people saying they have had enough,” she said at the time. She’s made numerous anti-Semitic remarks about Jews pursuing wealth and their political power. And earlier this year, she issued a tweet that accused the U.S. and Israel of “unthinkable atrocities” on par with the terrorism of Hamas and the Taliban.
