Homestead Swan Thief Surrenders To Polk County Deputies After Lakeland Heist

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – The second suspect in the bizarre theft of two black swans and six eggs from a Lakeland neighborhood has surrendered to authorities. 27-year-old Jordan Montoya of Homestead turned himself in to Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Friday night, February 21st, 2025.

Montoya and his alleged accomplice, 29-year-old Alfredo Casanova, also of Homestead, are accused of stealing the swans and their eggs from the Highland Village neighborhood on February 12th. Casanova was arrested earlier in the week on February 19th.

Both men are facing charges of:

  • Burglary of a Structure (with an enhancement for crossing county lines)
  • Grand Theft

The stolen swans and eggs were recovered by PCSO deputies and returned to their home on February 17th.

This unusual case captured the attention of the community and highlighted the dedication of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to pursuing justice, even for feathered victims.
