TAMPA, Fla. – A swift response by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Tampa Police led to the arrest of an armed robbery suspect following an incident at a Walgreens on Friday afternoon.

Just before 1:00 pm, 28-year-old Malcolm Green allegedly entered Walgreens at 12211 West Hillsborough Ave. and approached the counter.

Brandishing a gun with an extended magazine, Green threatened the clerk and demanded cigarettes. He then filled a bag with cartons before fleeing on foot to a great Toyota Camry.

A tense chase ensued after officers located Green’s Camry at the Family Dollar on 10404 North Nebraska Ave.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Green rammed the curb but became disabled after hitting a parked car and a pillar. Deputies from both the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and Tampa Police Department, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), quickly apprehended Green.

Green, a known gang member, is facing charges of Robbery with a Firearm. No injuries were reported during the incident.

“Despite the suspect’s brazen actions and reckless endangerment of our community during his crime spree, he was no match for teamHCSO,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Together, with the ATF and the Tampa Police Department, we were able to bring this individual into custody. He will now have to answer for his actions and face the consequences of the danger he posed to our residents.”

Deputies say Green was found to have an active federal warrant for Escape and is on federal probation for Possession of a Weapon.
