HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) celebrates its 50th anniversary this month with a special Countywide Open House event on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 45 Fire Stations in every corner of the county.

Hillsborough fire stations from Westchase to Wimauma and from Town ‘N Country to Thonotosassa will be open to the public all at once for the first time on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents of all ages are welcome to come tour a station, interact with fire trucks (if available), learn the history, and meet their local Fire Rescue crew. Each station will have someone available on staff to interact with residents in case the local fire rescue crew gets sent out on a call.

Each station will have information and takeaways for the kids (while supplies last). The whole family will enjoy seeing how their Hillsborough firefighters live and work right there in the neighborhood.

Hillsborough County also is honoring the 50th anniversary of Fire Rescue with a new story series called “50 Stories for 50 Years.”

In the 50 years since its founding, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue’s firefighters, paramedics, and support staff have forged a legacy that would be the envy of any league of superheroes.

From harrowing rescues on the edge of disaster, to stories of selfless sacrifice and bravery in the face of impossible odds, to the development of high-tech gear and – of course – big trucks, each station has a tale to tell.
