HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer sent more than 600 Presidential Preference Primary Election ballots Friday to absent military and overseas voters, and his office is preparing to send out more than 48,000 ballots to domestic voters on February 15.
The Presidential Preference Primary is part of the presidential nominating process for Florida’s major political parties. This year, only the Republican Party is holding a Presidential Preference Primary in Florida. Since our state has closed primaries, voters must be a registered Republican to vote in this Presidential Preference Primary.
The deadline to register to vote (if not already registered) or change party affiliation for the Presidential Preference Primary is February 20. Both require a Florida Voter Registration Application, available at VoteHillsborough.gov.

Registered voters will only receive a Vote By Mail ballot if they’ve requested one, and the deadline to request Vote By Mail for this election is March 7.
“I encourage voters who want to vote by mail to make their request as soon as possible. Just call my office at (813) 744-5900 or complete the online request at VoteHillsborough.gov,” said Supervisor Latimer. Voters will need to provide their Florida Driver License, Florida ID or the last four digits of their social security number when making the request.
Voters who request a Vote By Mail ballot are also encouraged to update the signature they have on file with the elections office. Signature updates can be made by filling out an updated voter registration application online or on paper. Online updates will add the signature on the voter’s Florida Driver License or ID to their voter record.
Voters who prefer to vote in person can plan to vote during Early Voting or on Election Day. Early Voting in Hillsborough County is March 4 – 17, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Election Day is March 19, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. More information, including the locations of the Early Voting sites and an Election Day precinct finder, is available at VoteHillsborough.gov.
