HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – Having a baby is a momentous, joyful, and life-changing experience. It also is expensive. Diapers, clothes, baby wipes, strollers …. the costs add up quickly.
Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, in partnership with the University Area Community Development Corporation, is helping alleviate the financial pressure on new parents and giving newborns a strong start by organizing a community baby shower on Saturday, May 7. Items collected through a donation drive will be distributed to new and expectant parents.
The donation drive for gift items is still ongoing and includes diapers, baby wipes, diaper ointment, formula (Similac and Enfamil), bottles, teethers, vaporizers, onesies, infant carriers, baby bouncers, strollers, toys, clothes, baby shampoo, wash, and lotion, and other items appropriate for infants.
To donate, contact Maria Pirone at (813) 734-4806 or use the Amazon Wish List.
Donated items will be distributed to about 20 mothers who have already pre-registered at the University Community Resource Center, 14013 N. 22nd St., Tampa, FL 33613, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Information on a healthy pregnancy and safety and care for infants also will be available at the event.
