HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Starting Monday, September 30th, Hillsborough County will begin collecting storm debris from neighborhoods most affected by Hurricane Helene.
Residents in flood-impacted collection areas should place debris curbside without obstructing the roadway or storm drains. To facilitate collection, materials should be separated into three categories:
- Yard waste
- Damaged household appliances
- Construction and demolition debris (including furniture, drywall, carpet, and fencing)

Please note bagged waste and household hazardous waste (paint, car batteries, etc.) will not be collected during this special pickup.
Contracted waste haulers and County crews will make multiple collection passes through affected areas, beginning Monday. Residents are urged to have debris curbside by October 7th. A map of the flood-impacted areas eligible for special debris pickup is available.
Community Collection Centers Offer Extended Hours
Residents not in the designated collection areas can bring larger amounts of storm debris to the County’s five Community Collection Centers. These centers will operate with extended hours from 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday, September 30th through Sunday, October 6th.
The centers accept various household items, including furniture, appliances, tires, electronics, batteries, and paint. Only the Northwest County and South County Solid Waste Facilities accept residential yard waste and wood disposal.
Assistance for Flood-Impacted Residents
Residential property owners affected by flooding who are not within the designated collection areas and need help with large amounts of storm debris can contact the Solid Waste Management Department at (813) 272-5680. Their information will be forwarded to the Public Works Department for follow-up within 72 hours. All requests will be evaluated individually.
