HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County State Attorney Susie Lopez joined communities across the nation in recognizing Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD), expressing gratitude for the dedication and sacrifices of the men and women in uniform who protect and serve.

LEAD was founded in 2015 by several organizations, including Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the Fraternal Order of Police. It was created in response to a growing anti-police sentiment and a rise in violence against law enforcement officers.

The focus of LEAD is to:

  • Show support for law enforcement: Expressing gratitude for the officers who put their lives on the line every day.
  • Promote positive interactions: Encouraging community members to engage with law enforcement in meaningful ways.
  • Recognize the sacrifices: Acknowledging the dedication and sacrifices made by officers and their families.

There are many ways to participate in Law Enforcement Appreciation Day:

  • Wear blue: Blue is the symbolic color of support for law enforcement.
  • Send a thank you card: Express your gratitude to local police departments or individual officers.
  • Share a positive story: Share stories of positive interactions with law enforcement on social media.
  • Attend a community event: Participate in events organized to support law enforcement.
  • Donate to a law enforcement charity: Support organizations that assist officers and their families.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is more than just a symbolic gesture. It’s an opportunity to boost morale, strengthen community bonds, and promote public safety.

As we celebrate Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, let us remember the dedication, courage, and sacrifices of the men and women who protect and serve our communities.
