TAMPA, Fla. –When a vulnerable individual goes missing, every second counts. In the early hours of August 10, 2024, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Section demonstrated their critical role in such situations, successfully locating a missing woman with Alzheimer’s who had wandered away from her home on foot.
Responding to a call around 2 a.m., the aviation unit utilized infrared cameras to pinpoint the woman’s location in a wooded area east of her residence on the 3400 block of Reynoldswood Drive.

The aviation crew then guided ground units to the exact spot, where they found the woman unharmed but in a swampy area.
This incident highlights the crucial role of advanced technology and inter-agency cooperation in swiftly locating missing persons, especially those with vulnerable conditions like Alzheimer’s.
“I am beyond thankful and relieved we were able to locate and rescue this missing woman quickly,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This incident highlights our specialized units and technology’s critical role in ensuring the safety of our community. Our team’s dedication to service and swift response made all the difference in bringing her home safely.”
