HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a phone scam where callers impersonate law enforcement to extort money.
These scammers falsely claim victims have missed court or have outstanding warrants, then demand payment.
“We urge you to remain alert and listen for red flags whenever you get a call from someone you don’t know,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Never withdraw money and hand it over to someone without doing your research or calling the Sheriff’s Office first.”
