HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – On Monday, October 30, 2023, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister and deputies performed compliance checks at the residences of registered sexual offenders before Halloween and trick-or-treating.
HCSO deputies will remind registered sexual offenders on probation that they are not permitted to participate in Halloween activities, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC).
It is forbidden for them to give out candy, put up Halloween decorations, or turn on their porch lights. Any of these rules violations will automatically result in a violation that may result in an arrest.

“Compliance checks on registered sex offenders are not just a routine procedure; they are a critical measure in keeping our kids safe and safeguarding our neighborhoods,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are taking proactive steps to create a secure environment for all families during trick-or-treating. Vigilance and cooperation from everyone in the community are vital to make sure this Halloween is a joyful and safe experience for everyone.”
Parents are also encouraged to visit the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) Sexual Offender and Predator database before their children go trick-or-treating.
Upon entering your home address, the database provides the addresses of registered sexual offenders and predators near your neighborhood. FDLE’s database can be accessed here.
