HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Republican Executive Committee (HCREC) has adopted a resolution urging the Hillsborough County Commission to immediately cease the fluoridation of the county’s water supply.
The resolution, adopted on March 13, 2025, calls on the commission to direct the water management department to discontinue the addition of hydrofluorosilicic acid to the county’s drinking water.
The HCREC’s action follows Florida State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo’s recommendation against community water fluoridation, citing neuropsychiatric risks associated with fluoride exposure. The resolution notes that 13 other counties and cities in Florida have already acted on Dr. Ladapo’s recommendation.

On February 5, 2025, the Hillsborough County Commission voted on a motion to remove fluoride from the water supply. The motion failed in a 3-3 tie, with one commissioner absent. The HCREC is now calling on the commission to reconsider the motion and prioritize the health of its constituents.
“The HCREC strongly urges our County Commissioners to revisit this motion and vote in favor of the health of their constituents,” said the HCREC in a release.
The resolution highlights the growing debate surrounding water fluoridation and the potential health risks associated with it.
