HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Hillsborough County Public Schools security officer was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence.

Around 3:24 a.m. on November 16th, a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle swerving out of its lane near Sunforest Drive and Eisenhower Boulevard in Tampa.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop and found the driver, 57-year-old David Cruzado, exhibiting signs of impairment.

Cruzado, who was wearing his school security uniform and had his gun belt and firearm in the vehicle, was asked to perform a field sobriety test. He showed further signs of impairment and subsequently blew a .168 and a .175 on two breathalyzer tests, significantly above the legal limit of .08.

Cruzado was arrested and charged with DUI over 0.15.

“This incident involving a school security officer is deeply disappointing,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “His decision to drive under the influence endangered our community and is unacceptable—especially for someone entrusted with the safety of our schools. He will be held accountable for his actions.”
