TAMPA, Fla. – Pickleball players in Hillsborough County can now enjoy some relief from the sun! On Friday, October 4th, at 9:30 a.m., county officials will celebrate the opening of the first shaded pickleball courts in the county’s park system.

The new shade structure, a towering steel and aluminum canopy, covers six pickleball courts at Northlakes Sports Complex, located at 2640 N. Lakeview Dr. in Tampa. This amenity provides welcome protection from the sun and inclement weather, enhancing the playing experience for pickleball enthusiasts.

This project reflects the growing popularity of pickleball in Hillsborough County. To meet the increasing demand, the county has been rapidly expanding its pickleball facilities.

The Northlakes Sports Complex project included:

  • Conversion of three tennis courts into six pickleball courts.
  • Construction of a 167-by-132-foot shade structure.
  • Installation of lighting and bleacher seating.

In addition to the new courts at Northlakes, the county now offers 40 dedicated pickleball courts and has restriped several tennis courts to accommodate pickleball play.
