Hurricane Helene Update: A Major Threat To Florida’s Big Bend

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – In partnership with state and federal agencies, Hillsborough County is opening a Disaster Recovery Center to support individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofits affected by Hurricanes Helene and Debby.

The center, located at Hillsborough Community Center at The Regent, will be open from 1-6 p.m. on Monday, September 30th, and from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily from Tuesday, October 1st through Sunday, October 6th. FEMA representatives will be on-site to assist with applications and answer questions.

FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program (IHP)

Residents impacted by the hurricanes can apply for FEMA’s IHP assistance, which provides financial and direct services to help meet basic needs and aid recovery efforts.

This assistance may include:

  • Funds for temporary housing, such as rental assistance or hotel reimbursement
  • Funds to repair or replace owner-occupied homes (including private access routes)
  • Temporary housing units if rental assistance isn’t feasible due to limited housing
  • Funds for hazard mitigation to rebuild stronger homes
  • Funds for other uninsured or underinsured disaster-caused expenses

How to Apply for IHP Assistance

  • Visit Disasterassistance.gov to learn about the application process, apply, and check your application status
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362 for application help
  • Call the Internet Help Desk at (800) 745-0243 for technical support

Remember: IHP assistance is not a replacement for insurance and may not cover all losses. Residents needing long-term housing solutions are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
