Tax Collector Nancy Millan and Local Leaders Announce Property Tax Relief Following Hurricanes Milton and Helene

Hillsborough County is providing property tax relief to residents and businesses impacted by Hurricanes Milton and Helene. Tax Collector Nancy Millan, along with other local leaders, announced key measures to ease the financial burden on property owners during the recovery process.

“In challenging times like these, it’s essential that we come together as a community and offer every opportunity for relief,” said Nancy Millan, Hillsborough County Tax Collector. “By delaying the mailing of tax notices and extending the discount period, we’re giving residents and businesses the time and support they need to rebuild their homes, businesses, and lives, while continuing to meet our obligation under Florida law to collect the tax revenue that supports vital services like schools and law enforcement.”

Extended Discount and Delayed Mailing:

To provide maximum savings, the 4% early payment discount period for property taxes has been extended through December 31, 2024. The mailing of property tax notices, typically sent on November 1st, will be delayed until November 25th. This delay allows for the discount extension under Florida law.

Online Access and Payment:

While tax notices will be mailed later, property tax information will be available online at hillstax.org starting October 28th. Property owners can make payments beginning November 1st.

Important Reminders:

  • Property taxes are paid in arrears, meaning the upcoming bills reflect property values as of January 1, 2024, and do not account for hurricane damage.
  • The deadline to pay 2024 property taxes is March 31, 2025, unless an extension is granted under the current Executive Order.
  • Residents with escrow accounts should contact their mortgage companies for information on property tax payments.

This initiative is part of a larger effort by Hillsborough County to support residents and businesses as they recover and rebuild from the hurricanes. For more information about property taxes and payment options, visit hillstax.org or contact the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office.
