HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise has signed an executive order extending the county’s state of local emergency for Hurricane Milton recovery efforts.

The extension will remain in effect through December 29, under the authority of the County’s Emergency Management Ordinance and Chapter 252 of Florida Statutes.

The original state of emergency was declared on October 6 as Hurricane Milton approached Florida. This extension allows the County to continue its efforts to address the storm’s aftermath and ensures eligibility for federal reimbursement for certain recovery expenses.

Under Florida law, a state of local emergency can only last seven days unless rescinded or extended. This declaration provides the County Administrator and emergency managers with the ability to take swift actions to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
