HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Calling all aspiring firefighters! The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2025 Summer Youth Fire Academy.

This exciting two-week program, open to students aged 14-18, offers a unique opportunity to experience the world of firefighting firsthand. Participants will learn from experienced Hillsborough County Fire Rescue instructors and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of firefighting and emergency response.

Calling all aspiring firefighters! The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2025 Summer Youth Fire Academy.

This exciting two-week program, open to students aged 14-18, offers a unique opportunity to experience the world of firefighting firsthand. Participants will learn from experienced Hillsborough County Fire Rescue instructors and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of firefighting and emergency response.

The academy curriculum includes:

  • Fire ground operations
  • Use of firefighting bunker gear
  • Aerial ladder climb
  • Search and rescue techniques
  • Forcible entry
  • Rappelling and knots
  • Water safety
  • CPR and first aid
  • History of the fire service

Applicants must be high school students or graduating seniors between the ages of 14 and 18.

The academy is free to attend, and uniforms, lunches, snacks, and drinks are provided.

Attendance is mandatory for all academy days, June 9-20.

Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on March 28th and include a personal essay and two letters of recommendation.
