Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Captain Arrested On Child Pornography Charges

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue captain has been arrested on multiple counts of child pornography possession.

On January 30, 2025, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Internet Predator Unit executed a search warrant at a location in Hillsborough County following an extensive investigation.

During the search, detectives discovered numerous electronic devices containing over 300 images and videos depicting child sexual abuse.

Marshall Van Nelson, 52, was arrested and charged with 100 counts of Possession of Child Pornography 10 or more Images and Content of Images.

“The actions of this individual are not only vile and deeply disturbing but also a betrayal of the trust placed in those who are meant to protect and serve,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “There is no place in our community for such reprehensible behavior. I commend the efforts of our Internet Predator Unit detectives, whose relentless pursuit of justice has ensured that this offender will be held accountable for these unacceptable actions.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing. No book-in photo was available.
