HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – With the approach of Tropical Storm Debby and the threat of extreme rainfall, the National Weather Service has issued flood watches and warnings for several areas in Hillsborough County.
Flood Watches Issued For:
- Hillsborough River near Morris Bridge Road
- Hillsborough River near Zephyrhills
- Alafia River near Lithia Pinecrest Road
Flood Warnings Issued For:
- Alafia River near U.S. 301
- Little Manatee River near Wimauma
Residents are reminded that a flood watch means conditions are ripe for flooding, while a flood warning indicates flooding is imminent or already happening. Even a few inches of water can be dangerous, and flooding can occur quickly and unexpectedly.
Stay Safe and Informed:
- Know your flood risk and evacuation routes.
- Sign up for HCFL Alert to receive emergency notifications on your phone or via email.
- Monitor river and stream levels through the National Weather Service Forecast Office.
- If you live in a flood-prone area, prepare by learning how to shut off utilities and having a safe place to go.
- Keep important documents and medications in a secure location.
