HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County continues to grapple with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene as County Administrator Bonnie Wise extends the state of local emergency.
This marks the latest extension to the emergency declaration initially issued on September 23rd, 2024, as Hurricane Helene approached Florida. The state of emergency is now set to remain in effect until January 20th, 2025.

The extended state of emergency empowers the County Administrator and emergency management officials to take swift action to safeguard the community and facilitate recovery efforts. It also enables the county to seek federal reimbursement for expenses incurred in response to the hurricane.
This extension comes as Hillsborough County is also operating under a separate state of emergency declared for Hurricane Milton, which impacted the state in October 2024. While Hurricane Helene did not directly hit Hillsborough County, its widespread effects across the state have necessitated continued recovery efforts.
The ongoing state of emergency allows Hillsborough County to continue providing essential support to residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Helene. This includes ensuring access to resources, coordinating recovery efforts, and addressing any lingering impacts of the storm.
