HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise has extended the state of local emergency in response to Hurricane Milton. The original emergency declaration went into effect on October 6, 2024, as the storm approached Florida. This latest extension will remain in place until February 2, 2025.

The state of local emergency grants County Administrator Wise and emergency management officials the authority to swiftly implement measures to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community.

It also facilitates access to federal resources and reimbursement for expenses related to storm response and recovery.

Hurricane Milton, which impacted Florida in October 2024, prompted Governor Ron DeSantis to declare a statewide state of emergency. Hillsborough County’s extension ensures that local authorities can continue to effectively manage recovery efforts and address ongoing needs within the community.
