Hillsborough County Closes Offices, Expands Debris Disposal Options Ahead Of Hurricane Milton

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County is shifting its focus to emergency response as Hurricane Milton approaches. All county offices and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, October 8th, and Wednesday, October 9th.

However, solid waste services will continue, and several disposal facilities are offering extended hours to help residents with storm preparation.

Closures:

  • All county offices and facilities, including libraries, parks, preserves, and recreation centers will be closed.
  • All public meetings are postponed.
  • Libraries in Evacuation Zone A will close today at 2:30 p.m.

Expanded Debris Disposal:

  • Three Community Collection Centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and tomorrow:
    • Northwest County: 8001 W. Linebaugh Ave., Tampa
    • Hillsborough Heights: 6209 County Road 579, Seffner
    • South County: 13000 U.S. 41, Gibsonton
  • These centers accept yard waste, wood, furniture, appliances, tires, batteries, electronics, and paint.
  • The Alderman’s Ford and Wimauma Solid Waste Facilities will also be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and tomorrow, accepting household items, but not yard waste.
  • The Resource Recovery Facility (350 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa) remains open 24/7 for yard waste, construction debris, and other items.

Other Important Information:

  • Trash and Recycling: Regular Tuesday collection will proceed as scheduled.
  • Pet Resource Center: Animal intake is limited to urgent cases only.
  • Sandbags: Sandbag locations remain open today from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents can get up to 10 sandbags per vehicle with proof of residency.
