RIVERVIEW, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with a shooting that seriously injured an off-duty Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agent late Friday night.
At approximately 11:07 p.m. on December 27, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at The Alley at Southshore, located at 10221 Big Bend Road in Riverview. Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male suffering from upper-body trauma.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Through their investigation, detectives identified Christopher Smith, 18, as the shooter. Smith was apprehended and is facing multiple charges, including:
- 1st Degree Attempted Murder with Firearm with Discharge with Great Bodily Harm
- Aggravated Battery with Great Bodily Harm Deadly Weapon
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Carrying a Concealed Firearm
The victim, an off-duty ATF agent, reportedly attempted to intervene in an altercation before being shot.
Sheriff Chad Chronister commended the investigative efforts of HCSO detectives and ATF agents in quickly identifying and locating the suspect.

“This suspect’s reckless actions have left the victim seriously injured, and he will now be held accountable for endangering the safety of others,” said Chronister. “The victim, a brave individual, was trying to disperse a fight because his sense of duty extends beyond work. Our thoughts remain with him as he recovers from his injuries.”
