APOLLO BEACH, Fla. – Hillsborough County will begin construction on the highly anticipated Apollo Beach Boulevard (Paseo al Mar)/I-75 Roadway Construction Project this week.
The project will extend the existing four-lane divided highway, creating an overpass on I-75 to connect U.S. 41 to U.S. 301.
The connection is expected to reduce traffic congestion on other east-west corridors like Big Bend Road by providing an additional route for residents and commuters in southern Hillsborough County.
The project connects Apollo Beach Boulevard on the east side of I-75 with Balm Road on the west by connecting Paseo al Mar Boulevard.
In addition to improving access for motorists, the project will also enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety by incorporating Vision Zero principles such as upgraded bike lanes and ADA-compliant sidewalks.
The project, with a budget of more than $26 million, was designed in 2016 by Hillsborough County and is being funded by the County, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), mobility fees, and the developer. Construction is scheduled to be complete in late 2022. Learn more about the project here.
Residents can visit HCFLGov.net/HCEngage at any time during construction to learn more about the roadway construction project, view the project area map, and request a project information meeting on behalf of their community.
East and West are reversed in the announcement about connecting Paseo del Mar to US-301.
