The incident occurred at approximately 11:32 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the man was driving a Dodge Charger northbound on Mariner Boulevard. A 48-year-old Spring Hill woman was also traveling northbound on Mariner Boulevard in a Ford Mustang, ahead of the Charger.

The FHP report indicates that the Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed, making multiple lane changes, and had been fleeing from Pasco Sheriff’s Deputies. As the Charger attempted to overtake the Mustang, the driver lost control near Lindsay Drive and struck a curb.

The impact redirected the Charger back into the travel lane, where it collided with the rear of the Mustang. The Mustang rotated and came to a stop on the southbound shoulder of Mariner Boulevard.

The Charger continued to rotate north, ultimately crashing into a concrete retaining wall at the entrance to Seven Hills Plaza. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the vehicle during the collision.

Mariner Boulevard was closed for several hours, reopening at approximately 5:00 a.m., as authorities investigated the crash. The FHP is continuing its investigation into the incident.
