HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Detention Deputy Caroline Schwappach, 34, on September 12, 2024. Deputy Schwappach’s unexpected loss has left the entire law enforcement community in mourning.
Sheriff Nienhuis expressed the agency’s grief, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Deputy Schwappach. She was an integral part of our law enforcement family, showing dedication to her duties and upholding the highest standards of professionalism. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this extremely difficult time.
Deputy Schwappach served the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office for over two years, playing a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of the detention facility. She was respected for her integrity and unwavering commitment to her duties.
The Sheriff’s Office is working closely with Deputy Schwappach’s family to provide support and resources during this difficult time. The family has requested privacy as they grieve their loss.
Counseling services are being offered to Sheriff’s Office employees who are coping with the loss of their colleague and friend.
