BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A massive search effort is underway in Hernando County, Florida, for a missing 70-year-old man with significant medical issues.
On August 13, 2024, around 1:30 p.m., the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) received a call about a missing person in Brooksville. A man reported that he and David Brown were walking in the woods on Batten Road with his dog. When the caller briefly returned to his residence, Brown and the dog continued exploring. The dog later returned alone, prompting the caller to search the area for several hours before contacting the authorities.

HCSO immediately deployed various resources, including patrol deputies, K-9 teams, drones, mounted units, and the aviation unit. Deputies obtained surveillance footage showing Brown walking southbound toward Hayman Road around 10:40 a.m.
Despite extensive searches throughout the night using infrared technology, Brown was not located. The search resumed this morning with assistance from multiple agencies, including the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Hernando County Fire Rescue, and volunteers.

Residents in the area are urged to check their properties and surroundings for Mr. Brown. He is described as a 70-year-old white male with gray hair and a goatee, thin build, wearing a ripped white shirt with blue stripes, blue shorts, and possibly one sock. He has significant medical issues.
