HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – In response to the approaching Tropical Depression Four, Hernando County Emergency Management has issued voluntary evacuations for Evacuation Zone A, including coastal and low-lying areas, as well as manufactured homes countywide, starting at 7 p.m. tonight.
Residents are encouraged to seek shelter with friends or family in safe structures. If this is not possible, a public shelter will open at West Hernando Middle School (14325 Ken Austin Pkwy., Brooksville, FL 34614) at 7 p.m. tonight.

The shelter will accommodate special needs clients, the general population, and pets. Please note that dinner will not be served tonight, but breakfast will be available in the morning.
Special Needs Shelter Transportation for Pets:
Those needing the Special Needs Shelter and have a pet can arrange transportation through Hernando County Animal Control by calling the Public Information Center (PIC) at 352-754-4083.
Pet-Friendly Shelter Tips:
- Bring your own appropriately sized crate
- Bring all required medications and several days’ worth of food for your pet
- Ensure your dog is up-to-date on vaccinations and trained to walk on a leash
- Bring comfort items like toys and bedding
- If your animal is shy, bring sheets to cover the crate while allowing airflow
- Label your crate with a unique identifier
- Be prepared to care for your pet, as they will be housed separately but accessible to you
Sandbag Locations:
Self-serve sandbag locations are available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. tomorrow at:
- Linda Pedersen Park (6300 Shoal Line Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34609)
- Anderson Snow Park (1360 Anderson Snow Rd., Spring Hill, FL 34609). Enter through the service road.
- Ridge Manor Community Center (34240 Cortez Blvd., Ridge Manor, FL 33523)
Please bring your own shovel as these are self-serve sites.
