HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Hernando County Emergency Management is actively monitoring Hurricane Debby and keeping the community informed.

The Hernando County Emergency Operations Center is gathering reports of property damage within the county to aid in documentation and provide federal resources for residents.

Safety Tips After the Storm:

  • Stay Indoors: Roads may take days to clear. Remain at home and wait for official updates.
  • Avoid Standing Water: Do not drive through standing water.
  • Use Safety Measures: Continue using safety measures like boiling water until it’s deemed safe by officials.
  • Utilize Your Hurricane Kit: Use your survival kit to meet everyday needs.
  • Steer Clear of Downed Powerlines: Do not drive or walk near them.
  • Await Announcements for Supplies: Emergency water and supplies information will be provided as available.
  • Avoid Damaged Buildings: Enter only when local authorities say it’s safe.
  • Be Aware of Flood Conditions: Flood waters can persist and displace animals such as snakes, turtles, and armadillos.
  • Expect Contaminants in Floodwaters: Standing water may contain gasoline, raw sewage, and industrial waste.
  • Turn Around, Don’t Drown: Avoid floodwaters as they can hide dangers.
