Hamas announced early Wednesday that its political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in an Israeli strike on his home in Tehran.
Haniyeh, who had attended the inauguration ceremony for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, died in what Hamas described as a “treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran,” according to a statement on Telegram.
The hunt for Hamas’ leadership has been ongoing for months, and in April, three of Haniyeh’s sons were killed in an airstrike on the Gaza Strip.

Iranian state news agency IRNA also confirmed Haniyeh’s death but did not provide further details. Israeli officials have not commented on the reports.
On Hamas-run Al Aqsa TV, official Sami Abu Zuhri stated that the group is “waging an open war to liberate Jerusalem and is prepared to pay any price.”
