Hamas has joined forces with other Palestinian militias to create a special unit tasked with stopping the rampant looting of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. This move comes amid growing concerns about Hamas’s ability to maintain control and security in the war-torn territory.
The new unit, called the Popular and Revolutionary Committees, was formed in response to rising anger among Palestinian civilians over the widespread theft of aid and price gouging.

Reports indicate that armed gangs have been intercepting aid convoys, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have repeatedly warned about the looting of humanitarian aid in Gaza. In one incident on November 16th, armed groups seized 98 out of 109 aid trucks in the southern Gaza Strip.
While a Hamas official claims the new force demonstrates their continued control, the fact that they need to rely on a joint effort with other militias suggests a weakening grip on power.

The ability of criminal organizations to openly loot aid shipments indicates a diminished fear of Hamas compared to the pre-war period.
The formation of the Popular and Revolutionary Committees may be a sign that Hamas is taking steps to reassert its authority and address the growing security concerns in Gaza.
However, the effectiveness of this new unit and its ability to restore order remains to be seen.
