Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign brought the receipts to argue GOP primary rival Nikki Haley is a closeted liberal, after learning a prominent Trump hater tossed $250,000 to her political action committee.
The DeSantis camp got the opening on Tuesday from Reid Hoffman, a co-founder of LinkedIn and, according to The New York Times, a “prominent” Democratic donor. Hoffman gave big money to Haley’s super PAC, the SFA [Stand for America] Fund Inc.
As The Hill reported, Hoffman “is an open supporter of President [Joe] Biden” and “co-hosted a campaign fundraiser for Biden in San Francisco back in June.”

Additionally, “Hoffman funded writer E. Jean Carroll’s rape case against former President Trump and backed Hillary Clinton in her presidential bid against Trump in 2016.”
On X (formerly Twitter), DeSantis War Room, of DWR, the Republican governor’s rapid response media team, posted, “WOW, another Democrat megadonor is supporting Nikki Haley. They know she will kowtow to their every demand, from opening our borders to being weak on China. Will Hillary Clinton — Haley’s inspiration for running for office — start donating to her as well?”
“It’s no wonder why Democrat megadonors and Wall Street CEOs are donating to Nikki Haley — they know she’s a liberal who will do their bidding,” DWR added. It then unspooled a thread highlighting Haley’s support for left-wing causes.
For example, the account posted, “Like these far-left Wall Street executives, Nikki Haley wants unlimited immigration,” along with a video clip of the former South Carolina governor at a town hall in New Hampshire, where she argued the federal government should ask Big Business how many immigrants, a notorious source of cheap labor, they need.
“Haley openly admits she believes corporate CEOs should set immigration policy,” DWR added.
The next post noted that Haley, in 2015, a governor of South Carolina, ranked No. 1 among Republican governors for investment by Chinese interests in her state. “Nikki Haley kowtowed to China by recruiting a number of CCP-tied companies to the state,” DWR argued.

A year later, according to DWR, Haley vetoed a bill that would have prohibited boys from access to girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms on the claim they were transgender. She claimed the measure wasn’t “necessary.” The account added a second post featuring a Fox News interview from 2022 when Haley proudly declared she “strong-armed” the bill. “We’re not gonna have that in South Carolina,” she said.
In still another entry, DWR pointed out that Haley “was a COVID fanatic, fawning over [former New York Democratic Gov.] Andrew Cuomo in the early days of the lockdowns like many other liberals at the time.” The post featured screenshots of Haley’s X account praising Cuomo, including calling his press conferences a “therapy session.”
On the trans issue, DWR added a clip of a CBS News interview Haley gave in which she said “the law should stay out of it,” if a 12-year-old girl wants to transition to becoming a boy. “Should transgender surgeries be banned for minors?” DWR posted. “Haley, who will do anything to please the media and big donors, says no.”
DWR noted that after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody, Haley proclaimed that death “needs to be personal and painful for everyone,” signaling tacit support for the Black Lives Matter riots that “were certainly painful for innocent citizens & small business owners.”
The account also maintained that Haley would oppose ending “birthright citizenship,” in which the child of an illegal immigrant can become a U.S. citizen just by being born on American soil, because “that would upset Democrat donors so no.” They quoted her saying that birthright citizenship “has served our country very well and should continue.”

DWR then revisited one of Haley’s most controversial moments as a candidate when she called for a ban on anonymous social media accounts. She dubbed them a national security threat. “Who loves censoring conservative voices most of all? Democrats,” DWR posted. “Which is why Nikki Haley, hoping to please Democrat donors, wants to ban anonymous speech online and force Americans to give their names to Big Tech companies.”
The thread ended by referring readers to TheRealNikki.com, a website devoted to opposition research about Haley. “Haley is not the conservative you think she is,” the thread concluded.
