Summary of the April 1st Incident:

  • At 1:29 a.m., a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red Toyota hatchback at 113th Street North and Park Blvd for a red light violation.
  • The driver, identified as Marina DeFilippo (DOB 8-8-59), briefly spoke with the deputy but then drove away, eventually turning onto Gulf Blvd.
  • Indian Shores Police initiated a felony traffic stop on Gulf Blvd at 177th Avenue West and reported seeing DeFilippo with a gun in her hand. She ignored commands to stop, made a U-turn, and headed northbound on Gulf Blvd.
  • Near 20254 Gulf Blvd, PCSO deputies used their MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle to perform a PIT maneuver, spinning the Toyota around.
  • DeFilippo continued driving toward a deputy standing behind his open patrol car door, prompting several deputies to fire their weapons.
  • The Toyota then collided with the open patrol car door, injuring the deputy, and continued driving before crashing head-on into another patrol car, finally coming to a stop.
  • DeFilippo sustained three non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital.
