Gun Rights Group Urges Federal Task Force To Target 12 Stricter State’s Gun Laws

As U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi prepares to lead the Justice Department’s newly formed “Second Amendment Task Force,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) has called for a focused investigation into states with stringent gun control measures.

In a letter addressed to Attorney General Bondi, CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb identified 12 states, all under Democratic control, as prime targets for the task force’s scrutiny. These states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Washington, have implemented what the CCRKBA considers “egregious Second Amendment violations.”

Gottlieb’s letter asserts that these states have effectively downgraded Second Amendment rights to mere government-regulated privileges. “The time has come to put the anti-rights leadership in these states on notice that their crusade to destroy the individual rights protected by the Second Amendment is finished,” Gottlieb stated.

The CCRKBA is urging Attorney General Bondi to deploy the full force of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division to challenge these state laws. Gottlieb highlighted California, Oregon, and Washington as deserving of particular attention, citing legislative actions driven by the “gun prohibition lobby.”

The letter specifically criticizes measures such as mandatory purchase permits, expansive gun-free zones, and compulsory training and testing, labeling them as deliberate attempts to discourage citizens from exercising their constitutional rights.

“In the aftermath of the 2022 Supreme Court’s Bruen ruling, radical gun prohibitionists have only doubled down in their culture war against law-abiding gun owners and the Second Amendment,” Gottlieb continued. “Their efforts amount to deprivation of rights under color of law, and this scenario cannot be allowed to continue. It is time to put an end to this nonsense and remind these zealots that the Bill of Rights is not a menu from which we can pick and choose which parts we want while throwing other parts in the trash.”

The Bruen ruling, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, established that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home, and that states must not impose licensing restrictions that prevent law-abiding citizens from exercising that right.
