The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) has strongly criticized Washington state Democrats’ push for new gun control measures, arguing that a recent double homicide in Seattle highlights the “strategically wrong and morally bankrupt” nature of their anti-gun ideology.
The CCRKBA points to the case of the suspect charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the Capri Hookah Lounge incident.
This individual is a convicted felon on federal probation for a previous gun law conviction, yet he is accused of fatally shooting two men. The situation is further complicated by the public defender’s statement that the suspect had apparently worked with a community organization focused on preventing youth gun violence, as reported by the Seattle Times.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb condemned the proposed legislation, stating, “Democrat lawmakers are pushing a Draconian permit-to-purchase bill right now at the state capitol in Olympia, which only penalizes honest citizens by impairing their ability to purchase firearms. It would not prevent a criminal from illegally obtaining or carrying a firearm, and they know it, which makes this gun control scheme so morally reprehensible.”
Gottlieb asserted that House Bill 1163, the proposed permit-to-purchase bill, is “at best, misguided, and at its worst it will be an unmitigated constitutional disaster,” arguing that the federal and state constitutions protect gun ownership as a fundamental right, not a government-regulated privilege.
He also criticized the financial implications of the proposed legislation, stating that its implementation would require the state to spend “millions of taxpayer dollars, which it doesn’t have with a multi-billion-dollar deficit,” and incur further expenses from “the inevitable lawsuits which will come from this gun control boondoggle.”

Gottlieb concluded by emphasizing the ineffectiveness of existing gun restrictions in preventing the double homicide. “That two men are now dead, and a convicted felon—who reportedly worked with an organization to prevent youth gun violence—is now in jail simply underscores how bereft of common sense the gun control crusade in Washington state has become,” he said. He argued that “new restrictions on good people will not prevent bad people from committing crimes” and that believing otherwise “borders on insanity.”
