Gulf Anglers Reminded: Florida Recreational Greater Amberjack Harvest Closed In May

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is reminding recreational anglers that the harvest of greater amberjack in Gulf state waters will remain closed throughout the month of May, from May 1st to May 31st.

This closure is a continuation of a modified recreational season implemented by the FWC through an executive order last year. The change aligns Florida’s state water regulations with existing closures in Gulf federal waters.

The FWC stated that this May closure is a measure intended to reduce overall harvest and contribute to the long-term health and improvement of the greater amberjack stock in the Gulf of Mexico.

Anglers should also be aware that the recreational harvest of greater amberjack in Gulf state waters is already scheduled to be closed from June 1st to July 31st under the current regulations.
