Growing Chorus Of GOP Lawmakers Say It’s Time For Biden To Resign

While some Republican lawmakers, such as U.S. Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, suggest it’s time to consider the 25th Amendment for possibly removing President Joe Biden from office, others say he shouldn’t wait.

Biden must go now because of the chaotic humanitarian crisis created by his precipitous withdrawal from Afghanistan, at least four Republican House members have said in recent days.

The latest came Thursday, from Rep. Claudia Tenney, who on Twitter said, “In addition to a full congressional inquiry, which must happen immediately, today I am reiterating my call for President Biden to resign from office following his unilateral, reckless retreat from #Afghanistan. His mishandling of this crisis shatters all confidence in his ability to serve as our Commander-in-Chief, which is any president’s most sacred responsibility.”

“As American lives hang in the balance, our president has been isolated from his advisors and asleep at the wheel,” she added. “But even without this investigation, we can already reach the informed conclusion based on the available evidence and facts that President Biden is not up to the challenge of responding effectively to a national security emergency.”

“As our adversaries watch on,” Tenney concluded, “one can only imagine they have determined America is vulnerable right now. The American people are at risk, and we cannot afford to wait for the next crisis to strike. President Biden is not up to [the] role of Commander-in-Chief and should resign.”

Also on Twitter on Wednesday, Rep. Lee Zeldin said, “President Biden should not remain in office. He and his team are just not up to the task at hand and greater and even more consequential challenges will now be ahead as a result. He needs to be removed before further damage is done to American citizens and US national security.”

Before them, GOP Reps. Byron Donalds of Florida and Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey demanded Biden quit.

On Monday, when asked if there should be resignations during an interview with Newsmax, Donalds replied, “It probably needs to start with the president himself, because by all accounts already, and the news keeps trickling in, people in his military apparatus, in the intelligence apparatus, warned him of this potential outcome, told the president that if he didn’t actually take real steps to make sure that there was a strategic plan in place for our withdrawal from Afghanistan it would look like this.”

“And so what you’ve seen is the epic failure of Joe Biden on the world stage. We’ve already grown accustomed to it, unfortunately, here in the United States, but now the rest of the world has been able to see his ineptitude that we frankly have seen domestically for quite some time,” added Donalds.

“There need to be serious questions about what was going on in the Biden White House that led to this abject disaster because make no mistake; it is an abject disaster.”

Van Drew even went beyond Biden.

He told Fox News on Sunday before the world saw images of Afghans falling from the sky in a failed, desperate bid to cling to exiting U.S. military aircraft, that Biden had to go.

“My God, it is one of the darkest, most embarrassing days we’ve had in our country, and it’s a tremendous embarrassment for the Biden administration. But with this administration it is failure after failure after failure,” he said.

“Honest to God, I cannot believe I’m saying this, it literally is time for this president to resign. It is time for this vice president to resign … and [House] Speaker [Nancy Pelosi] to resign. We need new people, even new Democrats, hopefully that are moderates. We can’t keep doing this.”
