For months Americans have heard from the left that former President Donald Trump was responsible for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol – even though Trump emphatically told his supporters that day to march “peacefully” and “patriotically” to demonstrate the election certification occurring in the Senate.
This has come from the same people who told us four years ago that socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders was not responsible when one of his backers shot up a baseball field full of Republican lawmakers while claiming he did so because the GOP members opposed Sanders’ healthcare plan.
Nonetheless, a new narrative is taking shape among some conservatives – bolstered by a liberal journalist who asserts the FBI and is playing a now lapdog media to subvert Trump and his followers.
In a recent interview, Glenn Greenwald, who specializes in national security matters, told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that the Jan. 6 “insurrection” had the hallmarks of an FBI false-flag operation.
Greenwald suggested the Jan. 6 incident smelled as malodorous as some of the covert operations it ran within the U.S. during the war on terror.
Those ops “contained very little domestically other than the FBI targeting people that they viewed as easily manipulated or otherwise vulnerable,” Greenwald said.
In other words, the FBI planted informants or other operatives among American Muslims and encouraged them then to join a “pod” that had been “devised and designed” by the FBI, said continues Greenwald.
The FBI’s MO, he added, funded the operation, including getting materials for the supposed terrorists, and then “boasting about the plot that they broke up that was a pod that came from the FBI.”
“The vast majority of times that you heard the FBI applauding itself for having stopped a terrorist pod domestically was actually a pod that they themselves governed and directed, with informants and with operatives exactly of the type that we know for certain they put into the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters, two of the three groups they claim are behind Jan. 6,” Greenwald argued.
“So, the only way you can claim this is some kind of a crazy conspiracy theory is if you are either completely ignorant about what the FBI does, or lying on purpose to cover up what the FBI does when it acts domestically.”
Greenwald said point-blank that the national media does one, if not both, of those in order to cater to a left-wing audience that hates Trump.
“During the Trump years, the CIA and the FBI became overwhelmingly popular among American liberals. They worshipped the FBI and the CIA because they viewed it as a bulwark against Trump,” Greenwald said.
“So, if you’re serving a liberal audience, the last thing you know your audience wants to hear – and their audience is disappearing, so they’re petrified of them – is anything that is questioning of, or critical of, the FBI.”
Greenwald cited CNN’s Chris Cuomo as an example of how devious and asinine this situation is. He noted how Cuomo recently interviewed a former FBI deputy director to get the “truth” about what the FBI was up to.
“What journalist talks to the FBI to get the truth about the FBI, when the question is if the FBI was being truthful?” Greenwald said.
He further claimed that when Trump was in the White House the media held a “worshipful view” of the FBI and the CIA. And that, added Greenwald, was what “drove Russiagate for five years, (and) so many of the false conspiracy theories that these outlets spread. And they’re doing it again.”
He encouraged viewers to search the internet for Operation Mockingbird, which was a “plot” by the FBI and CIA to “clandestinely manipulate” the news media in order to “disseminate propaganda to the American population.”
“They used to try and do it secretly. They don’t even do it secretly anymore. They don’t need Operation Mockingbird,” Greenwald added. “They now shape the news openly to manipulate and deceive the American population.”
“If you’re an American wondering what foreknowledge and involvement did the FBI have in Jan. 6, if you go and listen to those networks, you’re going to get lies,” Greenwald concluded. “Because the only people they’re asking are people who are serving those agencies and acting to disseminate disinformation. That’s what those outlets are.”
