Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Friday the reappointment of Cathy Chapman and Michael Kennedy to the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND), reaffirming his commitment to experienced leadership in managing the state’s inland waterways. Both appointees bring a wealth of expertise and community involvement to their roles, ensuring the continued stewardship of Florida’s critical water resources.

Cathy Chapman: A Leader in Marina Management

Cathy Chapman, the General Manager at Fernandina Harbor Marina, managed by Oasis Marinas, LLC, has a proven track record in waterfront operations and community engagement. With a background that includes serving as an Assistant Project Manager for the City of Fernandina Beach and an Accounts Manager for Westrec Marina Management, Chapman brings both public and private sector experience to her role.

Chapman is deeply involved in her community, currently serving as the Staff Liaison for the City of Fernandina Beach Marina Advisory Board. Her reappointment underscores her dedication to maintaining and enhancing Florida’s navigational infrastructure, which is vital to the state’s economy and environmental health.

Michael Kennedy: A Legal and Environmental Advocate

Michael Kennedy, a retired attorney and former President of Michael J. Kennedy, P.A., brings a strong legal and environmental background to the FIND. Previously, he served as General Counsel for Ranger Construction Industries, Inc., where he honed his expertise in regulatory and compliance matters.

Kennedy is an active member of several environmental and marine organizations, including the Coastal Conservation Association Board of Directors and the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County Board of Directors. His commitment to preserving Florida’s coastal and inland waterways aligns with the mission of the FIND, which oversees the maintenance and improvement of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and other key waterways.

A graduate of Florida Atlantic University and the University of Miami School of Law, Kennedy’s reappointment reflects his continued dedication to safeguarding Florida’s natural resources and supporting the state’s marine industries.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
