Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday suggested that President Joe Biden, despite the rampant corruption swirling all around him, has a shield against being impeached and removed from office:

Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Republican governor commented on the prospect of a Harris presidency during a campaign stop in South Carolina.

“If we muff this one, and Biden gets in again, heck, you may end up with Kamala as president,” DeSantis said.

“When he picked her for VP, a lot of people were like, ‘Oh my, why did he do that?’ because, I mean, obviously she’s got issues. But, you know, I kind of understand why he did it because, like, she’s the best impeachment insurance money can buy. No matter what he does, no one wants Kamala,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis’ remarks come as GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert’s effort to impeach Biden gained the support of House Republicans. The House voted along party lines on Thursday to send Boebert’s resolution to the Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees.

On Twitter Thursday night, Boebert said: “Big win today as for the first time in 24 years, a House Republican majority voted to begin impeachment proceedings against a current president. All Republicans voted to advance my bill to impeach Joe Biden for his failure to secure our southern border.”

The Colorado Republican’s measure accuses Biden of dereliction of duty and abuse of power for his failure to stop the massive influx of illegal immigrants into the country.

As for DeSantis’ comments about Harris’ popularity, the Los Angeles Times, which posts a running tally of the VP’s poll numbers, showed in its most recent report that Harris is 12 points underwater with the voters.

Her approval rating is just 41%, compared to a 53% disapproval rating.

Ironically, that trend began two years ago, when shortly after Biden made her the “czar” over his border policy, Harris visited Guatemala and Mexico City instead of actually going to the U.S. southern border.

Harris went to El Paso, Texas, later in June 2021, but as conservative columnist Ruben Navarette noted that was 800 miles away from the “real action” in McAllen, Texas, where illegals were pouring across.

“God forbid, there is a wildfire in Arizona,” Navarette wrote. “Harris might try to survey the damage by heading to Alaska.”

The Times’ tracker also shows that Harris is the most unpopular vice president in recent U.S. history.

According to the polls, compared to the last four VPs at this same point during their terms, Harris trailed Mike Pence by 8.9 points, Biden by 13.2, Dick Cheney by 35.6 and Al Gore by 39.4.
